Mount Holyoke College has joined JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services as a Tier 2 participant, selecting JSTOR Stewardship as the new home for its digital collections, and beginning a migration from its current Islandora platform.
Through Tier 2 of JSTOR Stewardship, Mount Holyoke will work within an integrated environment that combines digital asset management, long-term preservation via Portico, and discovery on JSTOR. The college will be transitioning its digital collections from a locally managed Islandora instance into the cloud-hosted Stewardship environment.
Through this transition, Mount Holyoke aims to better support growing demand for access and preservation for their distinctive collections, including materials documenting women’s education, campus life, faculty and alumnae, and the history of South Hadley and the region.
“Bringing our collections into JSTOR Stewardship gives us an integrated and innovative way to care for nearly two centuries of Mount Holyoke history,” said Deborah Richards, Director of Archives and Special Collections at Mount Holyoke. “We’ve been seeking a way to scale our work while remaining true to our mission, and JSTOR provides that opportunity.”
“By unifying digital asset management, preservation, and discovery in one platform, Mount Holyoke is setting itself up for sustainable, long-term stewardship of its archives and special collections,” said Andy Utterback, Senior Business Development Manager, JSTOR Stewardship. “We’re excited to support their migration and help make these collections easier for students, faculty, and researchers to find and use.”
