The University of the South, familiarly known as Sewanee, is joining the Tier 3 charter program of JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services, and migrating its digital collections to JSTOR’s integrated Stewardship platform.
Already an active participant in JSTOR’s services for digital collections, Sewanee currently shares over 7,000 items openly on JSTOR, including historic campus photos and postcards, vertical files, and other archival materials. Through Tier 3, Sewanee will gain access to JSTOR Seeklight, the AI-assisted collections processing tool within JSTOR Stewardship, and join a global charter cohort working together—via feedback, working groups, and community conversations—to shape responsible, scalable approaches to AI-assisted stewardship.
With a formal move from DSpace to JSTOR, Sewanee is consolidating its digital collections in a single environment that provides digital asset management, digital preservation via Portico, and expanded discovery on JSTOR. To support their transition, Sewanee will work with JSTOR’s professional migration services team to move additional materials, including yearbooks, newspapers, catalogs, magazines, and more.
“Moving our digital collections to JSTOR Stewardship lets us align preservation and discovery with a platform faculty and students already use,” said Adam Iddings, Digital Archivist at Sewanee. “Making this transition now supports the long-term sustainability of our collections, and creates room to grow.”
