The American Library in Paris has joined JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services as a Tier 2 participant, adopting JSTOR’s integrated platform to manage, preserve, and share its institutional archives.
As the largest English-language lending library on the European continent, The American Library in Paris has a print collection of over 100,000 volumes. Established in 1920 under the auspices of the American Library Association, the Library is home to an archive that includes photographs, newsletters, annual reports, meeting minutes, and other documents related to its history. In joining JSTOR Stewardship, the Library’s goal is to make historically significant materials publicly accessible, beginning with a curated set of black-and-white photographs documenting the Library’s evolution over the past century.
As a Tier 2 participant, the Library will use JSTOR’s cloud-hosted digital asset management system, preservation infrastructure via Portico, and built-in discovery tools—including the ability to share materials on JSTOR—to ensure both the longevity and accessibility of its collections.
“One of the Library’s main goals is to make history accessible and engaging for everyone. We’ve wanted to digitize our institutional archives for quite a while, and to get them on a platform so that the public can see them,” said Abigail Altman, Assistant Director at the American Library in Paris. “We’re very excited to have chosen JSTOR Stewardship, and to be moving forward with this project.”
“The American Library in Paris brings curiosity, clarity, and an incredible historical record to this work,” said Andy Utterback, Senior Business Development Manager, JSTOR Stewardship. “We’re proud to support their vision and eager to help make these materials available to global audiences through JSTOR.”
